Painting in Porto
Inside and out, with the surfaces prepared properly — that is where a finish is won or lost.

What does a painting job include?

Where we work
We are based in Rio Tinto, Gondomar, and work across Porto, Gondomar, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos and nearby areas. For other locations, contact us to confirm availability and the conditions of a site visit.
Interior painting
A good interior paint job starts with the home protected: furniture covered, floors sheeted and the working area sealed off from the rest. Then comes what decides the result — filling cracks and holes, sanding, degreasing and priming wherever the wall calls for it. Only then is paint applied, in full coats and with the drying time between them respected. Skipping those steps is why patches, roller marks and flaking paint turn up a few months later. That is how we work in occupied homes in Porto and the neighbouring municipalities, with the hours agreed with whoever lives there.
Exterior painting
Outside, paint works against the climate of the northern coast: rain, damp and sun. Before painting a façade you have to wash it down, remove loose paint, treat cracks and choose a product suited to the substrate and to how exposed the wall is. Balconies, parapets and window reveals are where water gets in, and that is where the preparation counts most. Height counts too: reaching the façade — scaffolding or a platform — is part of the planning and part of the quote, and does not turn up halfway through the job as a surprise.
Surface preparation and plastering
Much of what gets called painting is in fact preparation. Skimming a wall is what makes it flat enough for raking light not to give away every ripple; filling, sanding and cleaning is what makes the paint hold. In a renovation, this stage joins on to the one before it: holes left by services, plasterboard joints and corners are made good before any coat goes on. If a wall has damp, we say so and deal with the cause — painting over damp is money thrown away, and the mark always comes back in the same place.
Decorative finishes
Beyond flat emulsion there are finishes that change the character of a room: textured effects, decorative products, a feature wall in a strong colour, ceilings and coving treated in a different tone from the rest. They are jobs that need a sample before the decision, because a colour on a chart and the same colour on a wall in the light of that particular home are not the same thing. We put the samples up on site and only go ahead once the client has decided — and if the project includes 3D design, the choice is seen in the space before it exists.
How many coats of paint are needed?
The honest answer is: as many as it takes for the colour to come out even, and that depends on what is underneath. Over a wall that is already painted, in a similar shade and in good condition, two coats usually do. Over new plaster, over a repaired wall, or when you go from a dark colour to a light one, primer and more than two coats are normal — and some colours, strong reds and yellows above all, cover badly by nature. What never works is making up for the preparation with extra paint: a thick coat over a poorly prepared surface dries badly and ends up showing. The written quote states what is allowed for — preparation, primer and number of coats — so that you can compare quotes by the same measure, and not only by the total.
What makes the price of painting vary?
In the estimator on this site, painting appears between €12 and €26/m², VAT included. What pushes a job to one end of that range or the other is almost always the state of the walls, and not the paint:
- The state of the surfaces. Cracks, holes, flaking paint or plaster to be redone are preparation work that comes before the first coat.
- The colour and the product. Going from dark to light, colours that cover poorly, or washable and exterior-grade paints change the number of coats and the cost of the material.
- Inside or outside. A façade means access — scaffolding or a platform — and depends on the weather; an interior room depends on neither.
- Whether the home is occupied. Protecting furniture, working room by room and keeping to agreed hours is slower than painting an empty property.
Request the free, no-obligation quote: we look at the walls, measure, and the price comes in writing, with the preparation set out separately from the painting.
